2020

  • On the 18th of December Dr. Aistis Žalnora presented the paper “Secrets of global pandemics: from ancient times to the present day” at a scientific-practical conference “Lessons of pandemics: the past as prologue of the future“.
  • On the 29th of October Prof. Eugenijus Gefenas and Jūratė Lekstutienė attended the seminar “Ethically and socially responsible governance of research biobanks in the Baltic states” and presented the paper “Lithuanian biobanking: ethical and legal issues”. Programme can be found here.
  • On the 26th-27th of October Prof. Eugenijus Gefenas participated in the SIENNA workshop on the ethical reviews beyond medicine.
  • On the 26th of October Dr. Aistis Žalnora presented the paper “The great epidemics (pandemics) in human history: from the fear of the gods to the sanitary cordons” at the public conference “The news of science for Lithuanian teachers”.
  • On the 16 of October dr. Aistė Bartkienė and dr. Margarita Poškutė presented papers at Lithuanian history of science and philosophy of science conference “Scientia et Historia – 2020: personalities, ideas, studies”. Download programme here.
  • On the 8th of October Aistis Žalnora participated on the on-line sessions of the project “Politicised medicine” to discusse the cases of German Democratic Republic and Soviet Poland.
  • On the 12th-14th of August dr. Aistis Žalnora participated at the symposium on politicised medicine at Riga Stradins University (Latvia). There were discussed preconditions of politicised medicine in the sattelite countries: German Democratic Republic, Lithuania, Latvia Estonia, Poland.
  • On the 29th -30th the Center for Health Ethics, Law and History arranged the annual meeting of project “INTEGRITY: empowering students through evidence-based, scaffolded learning of Responsible Conduct in Research (RCR)”. Programme can be found here.

2019

  • On the 7th-10th of August Prof. Eugenijus Gefenas attended 33rd Europen Conference on Philosophy of Medicine and Health Care Philosophy and Eethics at the Edge of Medicine in Oslo (Norway) and presented the paper „DTC Genetic Testing vs Incidental Findings: Pros and Cons“.   • On the 11the-12th of June dr. Aistė Bartkienė attended Annual Workshop of Nordic-Baltic Network of Philosophy of Medicine Issues in Bioethics and Philosophy of Medicine in Tartu (Estonia) and presented the paper „Bioethics in medical education: searching for the best model“.   • On the 6th-12th of May dr. Aistis Žalnora under Erasmus+ staff mobility for teaching programme visited University of Rijeka (Croatia) and gave a lecture on early and interwar medicine in Lithuania.
  • On the 2nd of April Prof. Eugenijus Gefenas participated in the discussion „Science-in-Society Salon“ in European Parliament. The discussion explored the possible impact onsociety of genome editing in agriculture. Programme can be found here.

  • On the 6th of June dr.   • On the 7th-8th of December dr. Aistis Žalnora attended the international scientific  conference “The (para)medical discourse – genres, functions, transformations” in Wroclaw, Poland and presented the paper ,,Kursy ratownictwa sanitarnego w Wilnie w okresie międzywojennym”.
  • On the 1st of December doc. dr. Vitalija Miežutavičiūtė and dr. Aistis Žalnora attended the scientific-practical conference “Health and Coherence for Everybody”.
  • On the 1st of December dr. Asta Čekanauskaitė, dr. Margarita Poškutė, Vilma Lukaševičienė and Natalija Fiodorova attended the international scientific conference “Diplomats for Life: The 2nd Baltic Sea Symposium on Simulation and Virtual Reality for Education in Health Care and Patient Safety” in Lithuanian University of Health Sciences.
  • On the 16th – 17th of October Natalija Fiodorova, prof. Eugenijus Gefenas, dr. Asta Čekanavičiūtė, Vilma Lukaševičienė and Jūratė Lekstutienė presented the paper “Interaction between research ethics and research integrity: overview and analysis of situation in Lithuania and Finland” at the international scientific conference “Shaping Ethics in Academia and Society: Practices in the Baltic Sea Region” at Mykolas Romeris University (Vilnius, Lithuania).   • On the 21st-22nd of September dr. Aistis Žalnora participated in the scientific conference “Czystość i brud. Higiena między wielkimi wojnami (1918 – 1939)” (Cleanliness and dirt.   • On the 14th of September Natalija Fiodorova participated in the scientific-practical conference “Organ Donation: Duty or Gift?” at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences.
  • On the 24th – 26th of May the Department of Medical History and Ethics together with the Clarkson University (USA) organised Study Visit of alumnus of the Advanced Certificate Program: Research Ethics in Eastern and Central Europe in Vilnius. Programme can be found here.
  • On the 17th-19th of May prf. Eugenijus Gefenas participated in the European Congress of Research Ethics Committees “The future of Research Ethics Committees in Europe: Creating the way to innovation”. Programme can be found here.
  • On the 28th of April – the 1st of June dr. Aistis Žalnora under Erasmus Mundus Medea staff mobility for teaching gave lecture series on history of medicine in Yerevan Mkhitar Heratsi State Medical University (Armenia).
  • On the 26th of April Aistis Žalnora gave a lecture “Mental hygiene and eugenics ideas in the interwar Lithuania” at the Faculty of History of Vilnius University . This lecture was a part of lecture series “Colloquia Historica: Disabled people, Society and Medicine in Lithuania (18–20 c.)”.
  • On the 12th of April dr. Aistis Žalnora attended the conference “The vision of the future: a healthy environment for children” and presented a paper “School Environment and Child Health in Vilnius Hygienist Works in 1922 – 1939”.
  • On the 3rd of February – the 19th of March dr. Aistis Žalnora participated in the exhibition Citynature: Vilnius and Beyond” (National Gallery of Art). The exhibition was a showcase for art and scientific research which reflected the city not solely as a man-made creation, but rather as an ecosystem where human activity is in a constant interplay with processes of both an animate and inanimate nature.   • Prof. dr. Eugenijus Gefenas participated in The Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS) Working Group which on the 26th of November revised and accepted International Ethical Guidelines for Health-Related Research Involving Humans. Guidelines can be found here.
  • On the 24th of November Dr. Aistis Žalnora attended the International Meeting of “The 5th readings of  A. Sniadecki (1768-1838)”.
  • On the 8th – 9th of October Dr. Aistis Žalnora attended the International Scientific Conference of “The history of medicine in medical journals and more …” in Opinogura (Poland) and presented a paper “The activity of the Department of Medical History of Medical Faculty of Vilnius University in years of 1922-1939”.   • On the 7th – 14th of August the proseminar of „Advanced Certificate Program: E-Education in Research Ethics: Central and Eastern Europe“ was held by the Department of Medical History and Ethics in Vilnius, Lithuania.
  • On the 10th of August Public Seminar “Why Regulations Fail?” by Prof. Søren Holm, Manchester University took place in K. Donelaitis Hall, Faculty of Philology, Vilnius University.
  • On the 14th – 19th of June dr. Žalnora attended the conference and presented the papers: “The development of biomedical research ethics in Lithuania” and “Anthropology, Anatomy, and Histology studies at the Stephen Bathory University in Vilnius, 1919-1939”.
  • In December the article ,,Twenty Years of Human Research Ethics Committees in the Baltic States” co-authored by V. Dranseika, E. Gefenas,  A. Čekanauskaitė, K. Hug, S. Mezinska, E. Peičius, V.
