George Best’s case

Former football star George Best suffered from alcoholism. He was diagnosed with severe liver damage in 2000. In August 2002, he had a successful liver transplant. He was warned then that if he ever drank again it could kill him. But Best continued to drink.

Should alcoholics get liver transplants? Some say it is a waste of a precious and scarce resource, but others say there is no reason why people suffering from such a debilitating disease should be discriminated against.
